The University of Cambridge is a public research university in Cambridge, the United Kingdom. Founded in 1209, it is the second-oldest university in the English-speaking world and the fourth oldest in the world.

The university is also distinct as it is a self-governed community of students. It comprises 31 constituent colleges and over 100 academic departments organized into six schools:

  1. Arts and Humanities
  2. Biological Sciences
  3. Clinical Medicine
  4. Humanities and Social Sciences
  5. Physical Sciences, and
  6. Technology.

Notable alumni include personalities such as Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, John Milton, Stephen Hawking and Bertrand Russell.

About 20 percent of Cambridge undergraduate students and 50 percent of (post) graduate student come from abroad.
